Configure a Workstation

Each PC or workstation that is used with eBillingHub must be configured to work with eBillingHub. This configuration process does not install software on the PC, but it sets permissions to allow eBillingHub to download temporary Internet files. If this configuration is not done, you will be able to log on to eBillingHub, but eBillingHub will hang at Initializing Components when any of the screens such as Billing Wizard for Active Invoices are accessed. This configuration does not need to be redone if there is an update to eBillingHub, but certain operating system updates may require the configuration to be rerun.

The eBillingHub Technical Configuration Manual has details on what the configuration does and the options for running the configuration. The following section describes one of the options for running the workstation configuration using the eBillingHub Configure Your Workstation link.

Prerequisites

The following steps are required to successfully configure a workstation and use eBillingHub on a particular workstation.

The user running the Workstation Configuration needs rights to run an .msi file. Once the configuration is complete, users that don't have these rights can use the workstation with eBillingHub.

The following things are needed for each workstation:

  1. .Net Framework installed in workstation (version 1.1 or higher).
  2. Network access to connect to the time and billing system.
  3. Network access to the root folder configured for saving invoices.
  4. If your firm is using a proxy server, the Hub will need permission to go through.

The user will also need:

  1. Permissions to connect to the time and billing system. For more information, see Configure Connectivity to your Database.
  2. Read and Write permissions for the folder configured as the root folder. For more information, see Set the Root Folder for Saving Invoices.
